Collecting vintage antique chocolate molds is a passion for a great number of people. Hundreds and hundreds of unique heavy gauge metal chocolate molds were designed and produced in the mid to late 1800's and early to mid 1900's primarily in France and Germany and the U.S. Most all of the early molds were numbered and imprinted with the manufacturer's name. The history behind the manufacture of chocolate molds is fascinating in itself and, luckily, there are a few recently published books available to educate the collector. What began as a small niche in vintage antique mold collecting only five to ten years ago has grown into a strong and competitive market of collectors as evidenced by on-line auctions. Consequently this has increased the value of these molds and they are becoming ever more difficult to acquire. You might recognize a number of the chocolate molds I sell as replicas of those highly sought antique collectibles. As the antique molds increase in value many of my customers prefer to use the plastic replica molds. This way they can preserve their pricey antique chocolate molds by using them for display purposes only.

Why would anyone who doesn't make chocolate be interested in purchasing a chocolate mold? Actually, many of my customers do make chocolate with their molds, however, the majority use the molds to cast beeswax, papier mache and chalkware. Some of my customers are artisans in their own right who have received recognition and awards for keeping Americana folk art alive with their skillful and beautiful creations from vintage chocolate molds. Some of my customers sell their Santas and bunnies at craft fairs and in local shops while others have been featured in popular magazines and sell their products to shops around the country. But most simply love the sweet designs from a time gone by and they use the chocolate molds to make gifts to give to friends, family members or for themselves.

If you’ve never made a chocolate, chalkware or beeswax Belsnickel/Belsnickle or bunny rabbit, take a look at the wonderful replica vintage molds I offer. For those of you who are looking for a hobby, it's such fun to duplicate these delightful figures, and children are especially intrigued by these incredible designs of yesteryear.
